Diamond Wedding.
Their many friends in the district will offer cordial congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. William bicknell, of No. 2, Haste Hill, Haslemere, Upon their diamond wedding, which they kept on Wednesday.
Mr Bicknell, who is 81 years of age, was born at Witley, and is the eldest son of the late Mr. Peter Bicknell, who lived for some years in Petworth Road, worked for the late Mr. Stewart Hodgson, and died in Lower Street.
Mrs. Bicknell was born 83 years ago at High Barn, on the Lythe Hill Estate, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Heather, and was married at Chidingfold Parish Church on Dec 2nd 1871. Mr Bicknell has worked for 65 years on the Lythe Hill Estate, first for Mr. Stewart Hodgson and for nearly 30 years for Sir Richard Garton, and for 44 years he resided at "Oulden", near Barfold. Mr. and Mrs. Bicknell have had nine children, of whom six sons survive, and there are 17 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The two daughters died in youth, and the other son, Mr. Allen Bicknell, died about five years ago as the result of war service.
Of the surviving sons, the eldest, Mr. Thomas Bicknell, is Landlord of the Woolpack Inn at Elstead, and Mr. Alfred Bicknell is a bricklayer in London.
Mr William Bicknell served in the War and now resides on the Lythe Hill Estate, and Mr Leonard Bicknell was formerly a regular soldier in the R.F.A.
Mr Harry Bicknell served with the Royal Engineers during the War, and Mr. Arthur Bicknell with the R.G.A., the latter now being a resident of Petersfield, where he is employed as a gardener.
Mr. and Mrs. Bicknell are in excellent health and we hope they have many happy years before them yet.
Mr. Bicknell has five brothers- Mr. Isaac Bicknell, of Sandrock; Mr. Herbert Bicknell, of Grayswood; Mr. Thomas Bicknell, who lives in Underwood Road with his sister, Mrs. Remnant; Mr John Bicknell, who lives in London and Mr. Allen Bicknell of Farncombe.
Another sister is Mrs. Booth, wife of Mr. W. H. Booth, who formerly kept the White Lion Inn.
Mr Bicknell is one of the oldest members of the Haslemere....
